Facebook, Instagram to allow users to hide 'likes'

NEW DELHI: Social networking giant Facebook on Wednesday said it will now allow users on its platform as well as those on Instagram

to hide their public 'like' counts.

This is part of the company's efforts to give people control over their experience, a statement said.

"We tested hiding like counts to see if it might depressurise people's experience on Instagram. What we heard from people and experts was that not seeing like counts was beneficial for some, and annoying to others, particularly because people use like counts to get a sense for what's trending or popular, so we're giving you the choice," it said.

Everyone on

Instagram and Facebook

will now have the option to hide their public 'like' counts so that they can decide what works for ......

Cloudflare wants to kill CAPTCHAs so you never have to identify fire hydrants or traffic lights again

The company says it will save 500 human years that are wasted every single day by a total of 4.6 billion Internet users, while people "prove their humanity".

One of the most frustrating things about browsing the web is having to solve compulsory CAPTCHA challenges on websites that are designed to differentiate between real users and bots. If you’re tired of attempting bothersome requests to identify “boats” in a picture, here is some good news – American web security and network services provider Cloudflare says it wants to completely get rid of the service.

CAPTCHA, or Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart, has actually helped several websites protect themselves from bots and automated services from flooding their systems and protecting them from being overloaded to deny services to real, human users.

HERE’S WHAT THE “DREAMS” OF GOOGLE’S ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE LOOK LIKE

Google’s innovative DeepDream software is turning AI neural networks inside out to comprehend how computers think.

What if computers had the ability to dream? They can, in reality. Google’s innovative DeepDream software is turning Artificial Intelligence neural networks inside out to comprehend how computers think.

When a bunch of artificial brains at Google began producing surreal images from otherwise standard photos, engineers contrasted what they saw to dreamscapes.  Their image-generation method was termed Inceptionism and the code that powered it was called DeepDream.

Wikipedia says “DeepDream is a computer vision program created by Google engineer Alexander Mordvintsev that uses a convolutional neural network to find and enhance patterns in images via algorithmic pareidolia, thus creating a dream-like hallucinogenic appearance in the deliberately over-processed images.”

Color scrolls, spinning shapes, stretched faces, swirling eyeballs, and awkward patterns of shadow and light feature in the computer-generated images. The computers seemed to be hallucinating – in an astonishingly human manner. The aim of the project was to see how well a neural network could identify different animals and environments by having the machine explain what is observed.

So, what really is going on in the dreaming neural networks and what does this mean for the future of Artificial intelligence?

The result reveals a lot about where artificial intelligence is headed, as well as why it could be more imaginative, ambiguous, and unpredictable than we’d like.

Battlegrounds Mobile India Pre-Registrations Begin May 18 for PUBG Mobile Fans on Android

The original PUBG Mobile India was banned in the country in September 2020 after the central government deemed it a threat to India's online security. The return of the game was announced back in October 2020.

PUBG Mobile India recently changed its avatar to Battlegrounds Mobile India, and its developer, Krafton, says the long-awaited pre-registrations for the title will go live on May 18. The pre-registration will start via the Google Play app store, and interested fans will simply need to click on the “Pre-Register" button, following which users’ rewards would be automatically available to claim during game launch. Similar to the original PUBG Mobile India, the Battlegrounds Mobile India game will be free-to-play with some tweaks for the Indian audiences. The title will feature the popular Sanhok map, the company recently revealed. Sanhok was added to PUBG Mobile in September 2018, and it sits alongside other popular maps like Erangel and Miramar maps that are bigger in space.

It remains unclear  whether the Battlegrounds Mobile India will arrive on iOS-running devices. The original PUBG Mobile remained a popular choice on both Android and iOS. South Korea based Krafton that severed ties with China’s Tencent Games for the reintroduction of PUBG India, has set up a dedicated website for the upcoming mobile title. The website contains the latest developments and an official revamped logo. Earlier, the developer stated that Battlegrounds Mobile India would offer a “world-class AAA multiplayer gaming experience," adding that fans can also enjoy “exclusive in-game events like outfits" and other tournaments. However, gamers who frequently participated in international PUBG Mobile events through the game would be disheartened to note that Krafton has already confirmed that Battlegrounds Mobile India will only be available to play within India. Therefore, it is likely that the game will function like Game for Peace, the parallel port of the game that Krafton operates in China. The move is aimed at ensuring online security, and a spokesperson had said, “With privacy and data security being a top priority, [Battlegrounds Mobile India] will be working with partners, to ensure data protection and security at each stage. This will ensure privacy rights are respected, and all data collection and storage will be in full compliance with all applicable laws and regulations in India and for players here."

The original PUBG Mobile India was banned in the country in September 2020 after the central government deemed it a threat to India’s online security. The government had also banned over 200 other apps including some popular choices such as TikTok, CamScanner, PUBG Mobile Lite, and Alibaba. The return of the game was announced back in October 2020; however, several reports had claimed that developers continue to face hurdles from the government. The new announcement over its pre-registration hint at its imminent launch in the country.

Sony PlayStation 5 Supply Constraints May Spill Into 2022, Company's CFO Hints

Totoki's remarks are contradictory to what the company has said about the PlayStation 5 supply in the past. PlayStation boss had earlier said that the PS5 supply would get "better every month" throughout 2021.

Sony PlayStation 5 is still one of the hardest thing to get your hands on in the tech world. Now, it is being reported that it won’t get any easier in the coming times, according to the company’s CFO Hiroki Totoki. The Sony CFO, following the company’s recent earnings report, told analyst that Sony doesn’t expect the PlayStation 5 supply to improve any time soon. According to a report in Bloomberg, Totoki said that it is difficult for Sony to keep up with the demand for the PS5, and that the situation is likely to continue into 2022. “I don’t think demand is calming down this year and even if we secure a lot more devices and produce many more units of the PlayStation 5 next year, our supply wouldn’t be able to catch up with demand," Totoki was quoted by Bloomberg as saying.
